TV Nova

An international meeting on small scale initiatives centred on the media, sharing experiences and presentations from 5th till 9th of December 2001.

The audiovisual media occupy an important place in our everyday life. Television plays a significant liberating role. But all too often television has been reduced to a role providing commercial entertainment and sensational news. For some years now, more and more independent initiatives in the audiovisual arena have seen the light of day. These are often small private initiatives which do not seek any commercial profit. These 'private media' are means for independent communication, which, by word or image, aims to transmit a strong message.
Cinema Nova & City Mine(d) organised an international meeting with various local actors. About 50 participants from all over the world came to share their experiences. Their contributions were very wide ranging, from producing pirate programmes to granting licences to broadcast on the TV distribution network. Nova asked City Mine(d) to take on the practical organisation for this meeting. This was an enriching experience for City Mine(d) in the sense that the majority of the participants were accustomed to working in unfavourable conditions. City Mine(d) was also able to make new contacts, which could be useful for the future.

TV NOVA is a collaboration with Cinema NOVA.
