Taller Mapas

Mapasforum maps out how the themes of the Forum2004 are expressed in the city of Barcelona.

In 2004, Unesco’s first 'Forum de las Culturas’ took place in Barcelona. The good and the great of the world were invited to the city to reflect upon themes of sustainability, diversity and peace. For the occasion an entire new conference centre was built in the east of Barcelona. The impact of the project on the city, both in terms of development as in terms of refurbishment, was difficult to underestimate.

Over the course of four months, social and artistic organizations came together to ask how genuine the objectives of the Forum2004 are. They looked into the Forum’s impact on the city and connections to the corporate world and grouped their information under the themes of un-sustainability, real estate speculation, culture, immigration and war economy. The cartography, the Mapas forum, was made of the results of this investigation and distributed for free in Barcelona.
