Repertorium 2000
In January 2000 a second Repertorium, a directory of Urban Initiatives in Brussels, was published.
“Despite their great diversity, these initiatives share a number of characteristics in their approach. Their activities centre around the ‘out of the ordinary’, ‘eclectic’ and ‘innovative’ statements which distinguish them from commonly held positions and they are unafraid of bringing diverse motifs together: create and produce, work and play … , and all this in different areas of activity such as arts, social, economic political, …
Self-determination is another common feature. Self-determination in the sense of doing what one feels like doing just as much as independence from externally imposed criteria. Direct action, urgent and spontaneous, is often a deliberate choice guaranteeing great freedom. The metropolis and the lives led in it are sources of inspiration for urban initiatives, and are the places where they invest, both physically and mentally in empty spaces.” (from the introduction to Repertorium 2000)
Edition 200 not only lists contact details, it also provides a datasheet that allows to determine the nature and concern of 73 urban initiatives.
