ReLimite

Relimite is a temporary structure used as a performance space by local artists in Belfast in December 2004

When in the spring of 2004 the tower Limite Limite in Brussels’ Brabant neighbourhood had to make way for a permanent building, the material was too good and the concept too strong to be thrown away just like that, according to the initiators of the project. In their second challenge they forged cross-border connections with and in Northern Ireland, and emphasized the role of women in the construction industry.

In May 2004 APAJ dismantled the tower in Brussels. While architecture practice Laud redesigned the structure, the pieces were shipped to Belfast. There the team of male and female builders from Brussels worked alongside a team of young people from the Belfast Institute to exchange skills and raise educational and practical issues around architecture and public sculpture in the city. In January 2005 the project was finalized by the Lawrence street workshops, for it then to be used as a temporary arts venue in Botanic Gardens.

ReLimite was a collaboration with the British Council, APAJ, LAUD and the Belfast Institute.
