Kern

Since 1999, KERN brings together expertise in admin for a number of grassroots organisations in Brussels.

The will to start a new cultural project is often bigger than the skills to manage it properly; and financial, fiscal and legal requirements can indeed be quite daunting. It is often the reason why urban initiatives donŐt make it through their start-up faze, or remain an informal coming together of initiators. This is not only unfortunate, it often leaves people without the necessary protection and deprives them of changes they would have as a formal structure.

After successfully struggling with the demands of the law and applying to the rules of good administration, City Mine(d) decided to share its expertise. Instead of providing a service to initiatives, a pool of expertise was created. Best practice examples on how to register your company, how to keep accounts in a transparent way, and how to protect your employees and volunteers were brought together in KERN.

KERN has been suspended in 2003, but can be resumed at any moment by anyone.
