From 20 to 28 May 2000 INURA meeting of 'URBAN CONTRASTS' was organized in Brussels
INURA (International Network for Urban Research and Action) is a global network of individuals who devote themselves to the problems encountered in big cities. This group brings together researchers as well as field workers (militants, specialists in architecture and city planning and development, artists …) INURA's principal fields of interest include globalisation, city politics, residents' groups, transport, reconversion, ecology. The aim is to create a space where action and research can meet to confront the various points of view.
The year 2000 annual conference was held in Brussels, with participants from all over Europe and other more distant countries (the USA, Canada, Mexico…). The main theme was 'URBAN CONTRASTS', with sub themes including : the European Quarter, Brussels architecture, cultural initiatives, residents' groups, rue Brabant area, Matonge area.
Some of the comments made during the 2000 conference can be found in the book “The Contested Metropolis” (ed.Inura) and on www.inura.org.
